Planning - it is the key to gaining grant assistance

There is a very understandable “me too” attitude about getting grant assistance as part of your export support package.  Local businesses obviously talk with each other and when you hear that one company has received grant assistance to access a new market it is very tempting to see a similar contribution as your right.  But the point is that grant support, from whatever source, is generally applied where there is the greatest chance of success, not to whoever shouts loudest for it.  That inevitably means better planning.  It really will not help your case coming to see us at the last minute looking for help to get into a new market.

Instead, if you show us that you have a strategic plan for accessing several markets, that you have done your homework and that we can put a possible contribution into the context of your spending on your overall export development plan, then you will stand a far better chance of success.
